More Trouble at The Penthouse

Swansea's newest and supposedly finest restaurant "The Penthouse" is rapidly descending to be "The Shithouse", with another damming article this time on the owner being hit with a bankruptcy petition.

There have been a few comments on this blog about problems there, even before it officially opened. Staff have complained about unpaid wages, unclean areas, lack of training and customers have complained of poor service and over-priced meals that fail to live up to the standard expected at one of Swansea's premier restaurants.

The owner of The Penthouse, Mr Peter Way has now been sent a demand for over £900k from creditors, who are now seeking bankruptcy against him. Only a few weeks ago the executive chef Mark Broadbent walked out saying that he was owed £13,500 in wages.

It seems as though it is only a matter of time before The Penthouse closes its doors. It will be a shame because it is a high profile dining facility in an amazing location. It's just a shame that it's not owned or run by a professional outfit.

  1. I think this a great place. I have been fortunate to eat here on several occasions, and lately it has been very busy. I take my hat off to the staff who are professional to what appears to be the end., especially the head waiter. It will be a shame if Mr Way can no longer fund this landmark venue as i am sure spring and summer trade together with some better marketing could prove to be lucrative.

  2. I don't think the marketing is the issue. Mr Way has milked every opportunity to raise awareness of the penthouse and if it had lived up to the hype it would have been a tremendous success. Unfortunately he has told so many lies and run up so many unpaid bills with suppliers and contractors as well as not paying his staff that local people simply will not support any venture of his. The truth about Peter Way is starting to come out and it's quite unpleasant, we now know that the reason he doesn't pay anyone is not because of "administrative errors" but because he owes nearly a million pounds to his last company which is in administration. Local suppliers and contractors remain unpaid and some are facing difficult times due to the level of credit extended to the smooth talking Mr Way. I have friends who chased monies owed for months only to be given a cheque that bounced..Way simply ignores their calls and had the audacity to get free column inches claiming the things being said about him and his restaurant were "hurtful rumours". It is a shame that this venture is such a monumental flop Swansea deserves a top class restaurant, hopefully a professional operator will step in and deliver.

  3. hes smooth talking alright, but not very gd at it. tells so many lies he kps tripping himself up. Im actually a parent of 1 of the young staff there and im furious with the lame excuses for not coughing up their wages thats owed. he dont reply to others requests but has with me as im sick of him. and as for peoples comments on us who r constantly complaining about him and reckon we should back people that r trying to start a business they wouldnt say that if it was their child being being robbed of their wages. im all for people trying to improve themselves and better swansea but not those who give false hope to others while lining their own pockets and stuff others, whats happening to mr way he has brought on himself not what he is making out at all. listen more to the workers, theres two sides to every story. i will b on his case until my son gets his full pay and dont care who knows. the sooner they get rid of him and find someone decent and knows how to run a business the better, the place could b a goldmine with the right backers. gd riddons to mr way i say.
