And so the Vetch comes down

One thousand, nine hundred and eighty-three days since it was last used, firm plans have finally been announced to demolish the Vetch Field. It's been almost 5½ years since it closed and the Welsh Assembly has today announced £700,000 to contribute to the demolishing and landscaping of the Vetch Field.

This is only the first phase. The next stage will be to develop afforable housing and a green space. But we can probably expect this to take another 5 years with the speed at which the council have acted so far and the lack of funds that are available. You have to wonder what will happen with this big open space in centre of the city until any development begins. My view is that the councill will use it as another car park - 5 years of parking income for several hundred cars is not to be sniffed at.
