News .... eventually, from The Evening Post

A territorial stand-off has erupted in Glais with Clydach Councillor Roger Smith wanting to nick 600 voters in the village of Glais from the Llansamlet ward to his own.

A story in itself, but the point I want to highlight is that InsideOut posted this story over a month ago, yet the Evening Post have only just picked up on it.

I’ve previously questioned the quality of journalism coming from the local rag, especially when it comes to reporting on local political items effectively and timely. With newspaper circulations in rapid decline and the more active use of the internet as a news source, you have to wonder about the future of the Evening Post.
The Times has recently decided to switch to charging for access to its website, no doubt to supplement decreasing circulation revenue. The Independent has recently been bought up and it may even move to be a free paper, as its new owner did with the London Evening Standard.

Recent circulation figures show that the Evening Posts' circulation dropped by 8.8% in 2009 to an average of 43,644 copies a day. It's website can currently be best described as 'average', so if the quality of the journalism does not improve then we may all be left with the council's tax-payer funded propaganda rag, The Swansea Leader.

Average 2009 daily circulation figures for all Wales papers:
Evening Post      - 8.8%  43,644
South Wales Echo  -11.1%  36,928
Daily Post        - 5.0%  32,864
Western Mail      -10.6%  30,133
South Wales Argus - 7.6%  25,035
The Leader        - 8.5%  18,368

  1. A particular gripe of mine is the Post website when compared to thisisbristol, thisistoke etc.

Once again it seems Swansea is being short changed.
